The GFR Grant History
It started in December 2021 with a $3,000 pledge to fund 6 grants: $500 each for 3 men and 3 women. When announced, it resonated with the community and people started to donate. When the dust had settled, a total of $19,500 had been raised for cyclists in need. You guys rock.
The Automatic Racing GFR Grant class of 2022 ended up being a massive success.
6 original grants existed until
33 additional grants were pledged by
26 full donors and
41 partial donors to cover
39 grantees who were chosen from
224 applicants.
20 of them were female
15 of them were male
3 identified as non-binary and
1 went to a WTF team.
Among the recipients were riders ranging from 12 years old to over 40 years old. There were people of color, single moms, nurses, and active duty military members. There were cancer survivors, those who lost everything in the Marshall Fires, Olympic hopefuls, and people who simply wanted to give bikes a try. Almost a quarter of the total money went to immigrants or first-gen Americans.
Whatever their background, struggles, or varied stories, each of these grantees is someone who we believe, if given the opportunity, would reach down to help someone else up. And that’s really all that matters.
